Certified copies of the death certificateOrder several — banks and agencies each want one.
Full legal name, date of birth and last address
Social Security number
Marriage certificate, divorce decree or prenuptial agreement, if any

The original will and any codicils (amendments)California law requires the original will to be lodged with the court.
Any living trust and its amendments
Powers of attorney and advance health care directives
Names and contact details of named executors or trustees

Names, addresses and relationship of every heir and beneficiary
Contact details for the person's accountant, financial advisor or prior attorney

Tip: Make copies and keep originals together in one folder. Don't distribute property or pay large debts until you've spoken with an attorney.
